Searching for Communications Talent

The ECPMF is a pan-European organisation seeking out the application of the European Charter on Freedom of the Press. Its vision is to ensure free media throughout Europe, and journalists who can work without fear or threat.

We are searching for a Communications Officer to start working as soon as possible at our office in Leipzig, Germany (fulltime/part time). He/She will be responsible for our internal and external communications. Due to project financing by the EU, the duration is limited to January 31st, 2018 – with the prospect of prolongation.


  • Support the ECPMF’s media relations and communicate our issues to the European public
  • Write captivating copy for our website, social media channels, press releases and newsletters
  • Provide guidance and support to the ECPMF’s partners on  editorial and publishing standards and processes to ensure quality publications are delivered
  • Prepare, plan and realize PR for studies, events and other activities of the ECPMF

Skills needed:

  • University degree or equivalent qualification in the humanities or social sciences
  • Practical experience in communications and journalism
  • Broad understanding and deep interest in media politics and public affairs
  • Experience working with content management systems, MS-Office and image editing software
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English (to native speaker standard) required; additional languages an asset
  • Dynamic and professional manner, capacity to handle a high workload, good team player


The ECPMF is a small organisation with seven employees. Good team spirit is important to us. Because we operate at the pan-European level, applications from any EU country are highly welcome.

Intern Press and PR (full time)

As an intern at our press and PR team you write, edit and translate articles for our website. You propose own topics and support the team with research tasks on press freedom issues. In addition, you help to create press and PR material and maintain our social media channels.

About you

  • Journalistic work is something you thoroughly enjoy ever since your previous experience in press and/or PR
  • You feel equally at home in the English and German language, possessing advanced writing skills (German is a sine qua non, other European languages a plus)
  • You are a curious person, a fast learner and proactive team player
  • You are MS Office-savvy and familiar with digital image editing as well as working with content management systems
  • You are currently enrolled in a German university or Fachhochschule and in search of a mandatory work experience (Pflichtpraktikum)

You are most welcome to volunteer your time to ECPMF. The tasks vary according to the centre’s priorities; to the volunteer’s experience and language skills and current events. You may assist our work through such things as monitoring press freedom, producing media content, working on the website and undertaking research tasks. Volunteers are generally recruited on a part time basis for up to 6 months.
