Legal Support

Critical journalism is not respected and welcomed at all times and in all places. In fact, it is the opposite. Politicians, state authorities, private individuals, companies or organized crime try to silence their critics. This takes the form of banning orders, excessive penalties, direct censorship, defamation allegations and even imprisonment.

The European Charter on Freedom of the Press formulates high standards for the work of journalists in democracies. Our long-term goal is to strengthen the European Charter and to implement it in the working practices of European journalists as much as possible. In order to achieve this goal and to set legal standards the ECPMF will create precedents.
